Lots of people on the left rejoicing at the Tories' decision to put two extremist candidates up for leadership. All I see is our national conversation becoming even more hate-ridden, and the possibility of them even being elected.

IMHO UK politics lurching even further to the right is not a thing to celebrate. It is promoted by the ultra rich as a means of protecting their ill gotten gains and repressing everybody else!

Completely agree. We'll be hearing a lot about degenerate culture and journalists asking questions like 'Is it racist to talk about the native population?'

It's an opportunity for folks to put the right in a box and let them duke it out whilst the rest of us get on with our lives. However, my fear is that Labour will let the media convince them they need to tack ever further rightwards, dragging all of us into darker waters...

They'll not be elected.

Yes, and another thing that worries me is that both candidates are so close to Reform in their policies that maybe the two parties will merge at some stage. This combined hard right (with the help of the media) could be a real danger.

Indeed. It’s chilling to be honest. Both of them are poisonous individuals who thrive on culture war divisions and hateful rhetoric. Electing one of them is like choosing between plague and cholera.

Farage will drag them by the nose ever right wards. This leaves a huge void

Both want to leave the ECHR. That means UKG unilaterally ending the GFA. The ECHR was a pivotal guarantee in selling the GFA to the nationalist community & persuading them to consent to British rule. Even a failed attempt to do so will create a crisis exponentially worse than the recent one. Both want to leave the ECHR. That means UKG unilaterally ending the GFA. Fascism is inevitable as long as the media continue to steer their current course. The current state of the Tory party (and British politics as a whole} is just a symptom, not a cause. What is there left to do but find humour to stave off the desperation.

I can’t forgive those responsible for buggering up the chance of a democratic socialist government (albeit with the SNP) in 2017; for shifting Labour even further right; for this neoliberal, authoritarian, managerialist GOD-AWFUL P.M. He’s just keeping the seat warm for a fascist Tory gov. in ‘29
