Lewiston has been outpacing the rest of Maine economically and culturally for around two decades now thanks to our immigrants. But, being the whitest state in the Union makes it easy for the rest of the state to be coaxed into blaming their woes on refugees.

Lowell, MA used to be represented by a rep who was really good at bringing in federal money. Eventually he died and his replacement wasn’t nearly as good at it. It doesn’t have a whole lot to do with immigration.
