In the afternoon, the whole department joined us for a Higher Seminar with Patrick Anthony, @sebastianfelten.bsky.socialwww.uu.se/en/departmen...
The morning had presentations from Armel Cornu, Tim Berndtsson, Caroline Lindroth, Hedvig Widmalm, and Sarah Seinitzer, covering gendered, colonial, utopian, and medical aspects of mining history. Plus a crumble of blueberries handpicked in the forest! ☕️🍰
Linking theory and practice, we started by visiting the Sala Silver Mine with it’s jaw-dropping central shaft 🪨✨ It’s scary to think that this bucket went up and down with 3-7 miners at a time. On the second day, we had the opportunity to exchange ideas and research problems.
🇸🇪 SCARCE went to Sweden! @sebastianfelten.bsky.social and Sarah Seinitzer were in Uppsala for a workshop at Uppsala University organized by the wonderful Jacob Orrje and Måns Jansson. Uppsala is not only a centre for history of science and ideas but is also close to historical silver mines.
Sebastian’s diverse interests span social and economic history, environmental history, and the history of knowledge. As a geography minor, he’s also keen on interdisciplinary questions regarding landscapes and human-nature relationships. We’re thrilled to have him on board! 🚀
His research focuses on practices of scaling and resource management in early modern regions. With a strong background in History and Geography, he has explored debts in the late Middle Ages and early modern period through a practical lens.
🌟 Welcome Sebastian! 🌟 This week, we’re excited to announce that Sebastian Leitner has joined our team as a PhD student! 🎓
Tomorrow: Talk by @sebastianfelten.bsky.socialzoom.us/j/9636658827... PW: 700076
The highlight was the spectacular Erzberg mine and witnessing firsthand research efforts towards making mining more sustainable. Thank you to Prof Michael Tost and his team for hosting us, and to Martyna Konieczna-Fuławka and Krzysztof Fuławka for sharing the panel with us.
