While Mexico’s SDI (dotted red line) has slowly improved, Norway’s SDI (dashed red line) has crashed significantly by 3 times. This is a direct result of Norway ramping up its dependence on oil production to a huge 20% of its GDP, which causes 25% of its greenhouse gas emissions. 6/8 #OilKills

Same graph comparing world, Mexico, and Norway, on human development index and sustainable development index.

So even though GDP can tell you something (goods and services we produce and consume per country). It doesn't tell us many other important things. 7/8

Conclusion

GDP can tell you something (goods and services we produce and consume per country).

But does it tell you if your:
• money is spent on ecologically and humanly destructive activities?
• wealth is distributed equally and is used for education, health and basic services?
• country is developing sustainably with decreasing greenhouse gas emissions?
country is reducing its consumption of natural resources for future generations?

Short answer:
NO!
