NYT says their performance on Threads today was an aberration, & not indicative of deeper problems they've had with social media. Unfortunately, that hasn't satisfied many observers whose concerns are growing louder. The stakes are too high. For the good of the news, the Times should step aside

The issue isn’t whether the NYT is fit to run a newspaper, but whether they can convince skeptics they can and do it in the next two weeks.
If they're posting on Threads, haven't they already stepped aside?
People are saying the Boston Globe or LA Times should be next up, but I am all for a contested convention where the Detroit Free Press is an option.
