What does a plant scientist do on their day off? Gardening XD. Take THAT, you infuriating foliage...!

This has been a great meeting so far- brilliant to meet a community of so many scientists interested in plant evolution! #MAdLand2024#PlantScience

Making sense of oxygen-sensing in the light of evolution! Nine years in the making, happy to have contributed to this journey - enjoy the read! The role of ERFVIIs as oxygen-sensing transducers in the evolution of land plant response to hypoxia #plantsciencewww.biorxiv.org/content/10.1...

ABI5, crucial for ABA signalling in seed germination, is negatively regulated by RACK1, which aids ABI5 degradation and suppresses its activity. #PlantSciencedoi.org/10.1093/jxb/...

Working model for RACK1-mediated regulation of seed germination and the early stages of plant development. In the mature seeds where ABA is highly accumulated, ABI5 is induced and then phosphorylated by SnRK2 kinases to activate downstream signalling to active downstream genes including EM1 and EM6, and to repress RACK1; in the germinating seeds and seedlings where ABA rapidly decreases, RACK1 is induced through an unknown mechanism; increasing RACK1 can interact with phosphorylated ABI5 to reduce transcriptional activity of ABI5. In addition, RACK1 can also interact with DWA1/2, leading to degradation of ABI5 and consequently promotion of seed germination and seedling growth.

I had a great experience this evening, and I even got a free glass! Would heartily recommend #PintofScience to anyone interested in getting into public engagement. Thank you again to the organisers 🙂
