I think that's Liz Cheney's game. She broke with the GOP in the hopes that something was going to happen that shook up the party so she would be well positioned to lead it later. Both of them are from political dynasties, they know politics is a long game.

Fwiw, I don't see a problem with this necessarily. Ambitious people behaving appropriately is good. And I'm sure the ethics do factor in in somewhere. But I think Cheney has played it much better. She has double downed hard and even went the distance campaigning for her House seat.
