A thing I would have liked from tonight's very notable Simpsons s36 premiere would have been a tip of the cap to Holidays of Future Passed, which was originally written as an in-case-of-emergency series finale at a moment when the show's place in the Fox hierarchy was more precarious than it is now.

Also a really impressive episode for being so late in the show's life. (I reserve the right to revise "late in life" when the show is still on in ten years.)

Honestly I think the best series finale would have been season 8’s spinoff showcase
