I had not looked at chatGPT in months but was finalizing syllabi and fed it a list of book titles and asked for ISBNs. It promptly spat out--every single one was hallucinated. Our university has appointed an "AI Dean," however.
I'm pretty sure any citation is false? I figured it out as an amateur learner asking for studies; they came back with citations that were formatted correctly but completely wrong. This was well before I started seeing lawyers getting sanctioned for the same use.
This is what it is and what it does. This is all it ever will do. This shit wasn’t engineered to provide correct information, just good-looking text. Everyone should stop using it.
they should AI generate the dean . . .probably be more effective.
I would like to think that they needed the post because the CTO said "not with a ten foot pole" but it's probably more tech donor money being channelled...
