/2 you never know what ways are available to communicate…. Sometimes you may have an internet connection and others may not. I’d be glad to relay emergency messages if you happen to be able to log on. Stay safe guys…. I’ve been through it, you can too.

They’re great except they have limited range without repeaters. If amateur emergency volunteers come in they’ll bring infrastructure to connect to networks and the internet. Needless to say FEMA would have the gold standard for that, Red Cross somewhat less.

I got a bunch of walkie talkies, when my brothers kids were young. I always assumed, in case of emergency, I could use them to find help if cell service is knocked out. Could people just use random walkies (with the basic open channels) to reach out? They’re generally cheap nowadays. 🤷🏼‍♀️

“Multiple jails and prisons in hurricane-hit states have previously failed to evacuate incarcerated people during a natural disaster, despite being located in a mandatory evacuation zone. In South Carolina, at least two prisons were not evacuated during Hurricane Florence in 2018.“ WTF?

“Manatee county jail, which has 1,200 incarcerated people and is located on the south-east side of Tampa Bay, in the path of the hurricane that was roaring towards it across the Gulf of Mexico on Wednesday, will 🚩not 🚩 be evacuating, a representative of the jail told Newsweek on Tuesday.”

Oof. That one is the WORST. I’ve had it three times, that I can vividly recall. ✊ Solidarity.
