ANYWAY, sorry, bit of my theory in that rambling. I think they were trying to keep Eurydice from crossing 'the Frame'; Homer's Iliad has Patroclus not buried correctly by Achilles until Patroclus tells him to do so by visiting him in a dream. I think Orpheus just wanted to die with her somehow.

Like his song describes how he wanted to cross the underworld river with her/spend the next life with her as well as the current one & he was ready to kill himself after the funeral too.
