In case you were wondering if the playbook of the anti-Covid vaccine crowd of today is new, here's an article from the January 1960 issue of The American Mercury, an antisemitic, far right conspiracy rag. --polio vaccines ackshually cause polio! --I know a lady whose kids got it right after the shot

Propaganda works & it's been around for a very long time. You'd think society would have learned by now. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Propaga...

I wonder if you went all the way back to the 1918 pandemic if similar threads would be running wild in small presses.

And, in fact, live polio vaccine DID result in the effective vaccine of the entire population.

Really is the same playbook every time. Sad that we can't cultivate a society where this paranoid delusion doesn't happen, because so much in society is about scamming your fellow people

Stupidity is a sticky characteristic.

This isn’t a great example to use. You actually could get polio from the vaccine.

There were similar acts of protest that occurred during the 1918–1919 flu pandemic, when residents, business owners, clergy, and even local politicians grew restless by ongoing public health measures, defied public health edicts, and agitated to have them rescinded. But it was more political in 2020

It’s now new. But what is new is the mass dissemination of this mis and disinformation crap through countless channels and media and amplified by flaming algorithms. Totally new.

You should be aware that the type of vaccine that used to be used against polio were weakened strains of the live virus, and it could become infectious in low vaccinated communities. www.cdc.gov/vaccines/vpd... Obviously misinformation would greatly exaggerate this possibility.
