We are living in a golden age of shameless anti-democratic propaganda. Our institutions have largely failed to respond, and so in good neoliberal fashion, each of us is left having to be our own bullshit detector any time we engage with the news. Every person their own gatekeeper.
And it's not just that the gatekeepers have largely disappeared, it's also that massively funded anti-democratic organizations like the Heritage Foundation (and the Trump-owned GOP) have completely shed whatever shred of shame they may have once had about knowingly telling enormous lies.
this is really it. as some have suggested, some of the more liberal or even centrist billionaires should have put more money into a media operation that can be trusted to counter this. it's clearly breaking society apart, as Putin and others have aimed to do.
