Seriously though, why does the political power of celebrity only work magic for right wing dopes like Trump? Hardly seems fair.

I think it’s only worked for Trump specifically. The closest comparison with him isn’t Reagan but Al Franken, and he barely one his first election.

Well one big difference is none of those people are directly running for president. But I think a bigger issue is all the support and momentum has to filter through 24hr news networks. CNN isn't breathlessly awaiting Kamala's next press conference like they did for Trump. theweek.com/speedreads/6...

Fox News, CNN, and MSNBC all broadcast Trump's empty podium instead of Clinton's big speech

Hate is the stronger emotion. Trump gives permission for ppl to do their worst and to the worst ppl that's the best thing in the world.

There's a strong vein of questioning or rejecting or just being skeptical of authority on the left, which is why efforts to create left-wing equivalents of the right-wing infosphere generally fall short. OTOH there's a conservative tendency to follow authority--be it tradition, religion, law. 1/2

I respectfully suggest that the root problem is having a celebrity culture at all.

I think it's a different type of celebrity - more televangelist than movie star or pop star.

Might it just be the assumption that the default for celebrities is liberal, even if it's not necessarily the case?
