This is a weirdly anachronistic Leave it to Beaver vision of family life from Vance. It’s even more glaring because the right wing discourse of “fatherhood” was right there. He could have talked about his fatherly role as a spiritual guide to his children. But no, it’s just wife as child wrangler.
