So I'm on this list, which is bananas. And right off the bat I notice Ai Yazawa and Kyoko Okazaki, two pioneering shojo manga artists whose careers have been cut short by severe health problems. Please, please, instead of messing around with AI trash, buy these artists' books and support them.
A new translation of Neighborhood Story has been released by Viz. It's never been out in English before. There's also good Paradise Kiss editions and Nana reprints. I don't know if that helps Ai Yazawa but it shows our support
Amazing, that's even more trash behavior than I was already expecting from them
I think we should tell people we know on Japan.
It's more like who ISN't on that list.
Heads up: this case has been going on a while & the previous rulings have been for Midjourney, Stability AI and DeviantArt. venturebeat.com/ai/midjourne...
The AI image generator companies filed a motion to dismiss the copyright case against them by artists, and Orrick largely granted it.
I see Lea Hernandez (Seidman) listed on there too. Lots of comics and manga folks.
I usually sign my last name, but have often just used my first name online. Tho I noticed someone used one of NY old Twitter handles so maybe not? Not sure how I'd find out if it's my comics/art.
There's an André on it, but I assume it isn't me? Or did they really just grab everyone?
Also Kirby, Ditko, Toth, Barks, Caniff, Krigstein, Wood, Frazetta, Chuck Jones, etc., whose estates might have some recourse. A little surprised to see Gaiman on the list, but I suppose that means that they scraped the Sandman series.
