Could they have left the offshoots of the old one? Perhaps it would have thrived if so (?)

I asked myself the same question, Shane, but it was in a terrible state. The work was done by a tree surgeon. The city has a programme of planting 4,000 trees every year. I'll request it's replaced with the same or similar species in October, when the planting season begins again.
