If a disaster causes mass cancellation of classes, I also cancel online classes. Chances are that the disaster that shut down my institution is also interfering with students’ home lives.

This is one of the insidious myths of online education: that it is disaster proof. But when physical buildings are closed, that sends a ripple through the student population that will impact those students at home (or just taking online classes).

I’m glad you take this stance. In a similar vein I have friends in the area who WFH and trying to get time to recover is like pulling teeth for companies.
