Important 🧵on our new peer-reviewed paper: The pandemic is as bad as it ever was for babies - in year to Aug 2023, 6,300 babies under 1 were admitted to hospital wholly or partly BECAUSE of Covid. They are ONLY age group where admissions have NOT gone down over time 1/17

Detail of the feathers of the Fiery-throated Hummingbird #birds#hummingbirds

A small bird with iridescent, multi-colored feathers perched on a branch. Its body glows with vibrant greens and blues, with hints of purple around the chest and wings. The bird's head is darker, with a subtle sheen of blue, and its eyes are large and dark. Its beak shows a touch of red near the base. The background is blurred with warm, soft tones of green and brown, highlighting the bird’s shimmering plumage.

For MSNBC, I bite the bullet and become the old trans community curmudgeon we need in this electoral moment. Me, on those Dem Senate ads in TX and OH, Harris' Fox News interview, and why Dems shouldn't be so scared of trans issues: www.msnbc.com/opinion/msnb...

Opinion | Trans people need Dems to defend us from GOP attacks. They're not.
Opinion | Trans people need Dems to defend us from GOP attacks. They're not.

Democrats have been reluctant to defend trans people and their rights as Republicans have spent millions of dollars on ads whipping up anti-trans resentment.

I have compression gloves, compression socks, and slider pins from Bibi's store! I recently pre-ordered some more compression socks and got myself a #ForTinu pin, too. I'd much rather buy from a disabled queer Black femme than some faceless company, especially with these prices!

I've got a classroom in New England who needs to talk to someone who knows about algae, and we don't have anyone in the Skype a Scientist database at the moment who mentioned algae! Here are the kinds of questions they want answered. Are you down to talk to some kids about algae? DM me!

a screenshotted list of questions. The questions are: What causes algal blooms to happen in lakes and oceans the most?
How do you treat the algae bloom when it’s there? Why do algae blooms harm humans?
How do you know which algae blooms are harmful and which algae blooms are not?
How can algae bloom harm other living organisms?
What is the best, and most natural way to prevent algal blooms?
How do we clean algal blooms without affecting ourselves?
Do we have any awareness activities to prevent algal blooms?
What is the trend that you are observing in the number of algae blooms over the past few years?
Do the treatments used by you impact wildlife in the ponds / lakes / oceans?
Is there a problem of acidification in the oceans?
How many types of algae blooms are common in New England area?
How often are the treatments needed?

The 450,000 member healthcare union 1199SEIU calls for arms embargo against Israel

1199SEIU Calls for
Ceasefire in Lebanon and Gaza & Arms Embargo
Against Israel
1199SEIU United Healthcare Workers East, the Largest Union of Healthcare Workers in the US, Released the Following Statement Today:
This month, the world marked the anniversary of the horrific October 7 attack by Hamas against Israel, during which 1,200 Israelis were killed, thousands more injured, and hundreds kidnapped. 1199SEIU reiterates our unequivocal condemnation of Hamas' actions and demands the immediate return of the remaining hostages and the end to indiscriminate rocket attacks against Israel.
Over the past year, the Netanyahu government has used the October 7 atrocities to justify inexcusable destruction and killing in Gaza, creating an unprecedented humanitarian catastrophe in the region which continues to worsen each day. Over 40,000
Gazans have been killed and one million are at imminent risk of starvation, according to the World Food Programme. (1]
In a further escalation of the regional crisis, Israel's bombardment of Lebanon has now forced nearly one million people to flee their homes. The World Health Organization has identified 16 Israeli attacks against the Lebanese healthcare sector with at least 9 hospitals fully or partly shut down.[2] Hezbollah has likewise continued to commit war crimes by launching rocket and drone attacks across the border into Israel.
As a union of healthcare workers, many of whom have family in the region, 1199SEIU is appalled by the incredible loss of life in this conflict. We are deeply concerned by the US and other Western governments' ongoing support of the Netanyahu administration as it continues to flout humanitarian principles and kill civilians, including by bombing hospitals.
1199SEIU demands urgent, concrete efforts by the Us to establish an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and Lebanon and the full flow of humanitarian aid. There cannot be any more delay. We call on the Biden administration to enforce the Foreign Assistance Act and suspend military assistance to Israel for its continued blockage of aid necessary to avert catastrophic famine. It is unacceptable for Israel to use US military aid for aims well beyond its self-defense.
All people impacted by this conflict -Palestinian, Israeli, and Lebanese alike-deserve a future free from war and suffering. The only way to seek justice for the innocent lives lost is to build a lasting peace that ensures safety, self-determination, and a respect for international law and norms on all sides.
