it occurs to me that the trajectory of the modern GOP is precisely the unmoderated forum trajectory. First you get the pedantic sea lions, then the trolls, all the women leave, then the people who are too fucked up to be trollable show up, and finally you're left with just nazis

Don't forget the spammers and scammers. Once the moderation breaks down, they flood in.
Meanwhile those reporters and media outlets treating the institution of the GOP seriously help perpetuate the fiction that it’s a party in the same sense that the Democrats are a party. It’s like comparing a moderated forum on gardening to the aforementioned Nazi forum. Different things!
