Agreed, but there's also a kernel of truth in it -- Congress doesn't call in the provosts, who actually run institutions. They call the figure heads, who really should have been better at this. I blame General Counsels.

In the midst of its generally terrible coverage the Times did go out of its way to name the actual lawyers from WilmerHale who so badly prepped them. The GC's deferred to the hired guns, and the hired guns blew it.

I just think it's absurd to say they should have been better at this. The responsibility for being better under fire here belongs to the trustees, who just panicked and did the worst thing they could do.
