Our daffodils were popping up last week… a little early, even for them!

I often hear ppl making excuses as to why we can't or shouldn't grow food at home. The one that bothers me the most is "it's expensive". Walking is expensive too, if you think you need fancy track shoes, a brand-name water bottle and breathable moisture-wicking tech clothing.

Do it! I grew some from seed in spring 2022 and it’s my fav garden vegetable. No maintenance perennial that grows these cute little broccoli-like flower heads (good fresh) and thick green leaves (better cooked). Peppery broc flavour.

We're decidedly perennial food and medicine planting this year. Sylvetta arugula, licorice, lovage, turkish rocket, sea kale... What interesting perennials are you growing this year? 🌱

@mycomagus.bsky.social! Thank you so much for the card, it was incredibly thoughtful, and it surely made my day. 💚💚💚

I think it’s more common than we see, as the folks I’ve made friends with online are just normal people who also value online friendships. Most of them are also unrooted parents. I see we share connection on the other app; the DO crew over there is full of real folks making IRL connections.

I feel this. I moved away from most of my friends. Making IRL friends as an adult is *hard* (especially as a parent). It's weird to say it out loud (millenial) but I have made some pretty good internet friends over the past 18 months. It's possible!

Good advice! Observation is super important. Learning trees, ecosystems, and seasonality helps a lot. Also, an underutilized and less-talked-about ID key: smell.

Growing your own food i̶s̶ ̶ <can be> a̶ long <and extremely rewarding> process that involves a s̶i̶g̶n̶i̶f̶i̶c̶a̶n̶t̶ small amount of <well spent> time and effort, not to mention s̶p̶a̶c̶e̶ a bucket and some dirt.
