I guess this is fossil companies arguing for nuclear over renewables precisely because the former will take much longer to build? A last ditch, jam tomorrow argument to give their assets a couple more investment cycles?

Of course uranium itself can only be a transitional solution - it isn't a renewable resource. We have about 230 years at current consumption rates... but if we massively ramp generation that will fall pretty rapidly.
