Did you know the Sainsbury Institute was borne out of the sale of a Modigliani painting? Originally in Sir Robert and Lady Sainsbury’s private collection, ‘Portrait of Baranowski’ was sold in '98 to provide the basic endowment for the Institute, which was founded on 1 Jan 99. 2/3
