For the last year, I've been involved in testing Microsoft's new AI programme. It can't spot a spoof Microsoft email & insisted that I'd written a non-existent book in 2021. Unnervingly, Microsoft openly markets it as a way to save time on our children.

AI will do some truly amazing things. But it could mean outsourcing our critical faculties to manipulatable machines whose workings we don't undertand. Microsoft's AI tool told me it didn't like this column and I ignored that. Over time, we're less likely to reject such advice.
