I found La défaite both cogent and interesting. It's true that Finkielkraut mostly takes his ideas from Lévi-Strauss or Levinas or Kundera, avowedely so. He is not a great original thinker. On the other hand, if a writer on the left brings up 'domination', we've heard that before too, haven't we?
