i'm not always as disciplined as i could be in sticking to this truth but it seems increasingly undeniable: we live in an age of post-material politics 😩😩😩
One could argue it's a post-materialist age altogether.
I think material politics still has a role on the margin, especially for those poorer, lower on Maslow's hierarchy of needs. Democrats are doing better than other incumbent parties worldwide, because of better economic policy. & inflation is a big reason incumbent parties are doing badly.
a lot of people really really hate this idea. they want to believe that everything and every political conflict has a materialist explanation "america invaded iraq for the oil" "israel invaded gaza for the resources" "rural voters vote republican because they're poor" lol.
