the thing about immigration is it lets people escape repressive horrorshows *and also* is good for america economically *and also* is a key move in winning the new cold war the only tradeoff is "some nativists will be super mad" but here's the secret: nativists are gonna be super mad regardless
Also making nativists mad could be seen as a positive good
The other secret with nativists is most of them aren't REALLY nativists - they're fine with immigration by Canadians, Brits, Scots, Irish, Germans, Swedes, hot Yugoslavian women, ok maybe not Polish men, but their real issue is racism, and the nativism's a cover for it.
In fact, the nativists being super mad is also a positive, as they are loathsome and deserve to suffer, at least until they make peace with having to live in a civil society with the rest of us.
like in the long run our best "offensive" strategy in the new cold war is simply to heighten the contradictions in the prc's own political system, and part of that means forcing them to surveil and repress their own people ever more it turns out repression is expensive and dysfunctional!
