Today, Kamala Harris made a groundbreaking proposal to fund long-term care through Medicare. I talked to some folks about the drastic actions they took to get care for their parents with dementia under the current system. It doesn’t have to be this way.
In announcing her plan for long-term care on the popular morning show “The View,” the vice president spoke directly to caregivers and older adults, most of whom are women.
My Grandma is in long-term care right now. If my grandparents had not invested in an IRA plan, they would be screwed right now. This plan would have saved my middle-class family tens of thousands of dollars a year for the last few years.
This is the right thing to do and hopefully a step towards a slippery slope towards Medicare for all
Two personal reasons I left USA my country of origin were the high costs of veterinary care and limitations of Medicare for chronic or long-term health care. The other 2 reasons were the re-election of Bush and the Patriot act. #votebluethewholeticket Harris can’t do it without a blue congress
I have a physically 100% healthy octagenarian parent with rapidly worsening dementia, moved from indy living to assistance, likely memory care within the year. Even w/ LTC, the costs are exorbitant. Private equity moving into this space rapidly is only going to worsen it
Thanks for chatting, hope my comments helped a bit. This is an incredibly important piece of policy. It's not just designed to help the elderly and disabled, but even more so their families shouldering the burdens. Could be more of a Gen X voting push rather than boomer.
If only they're already in power..
Kamala Harris refuses to renounce genocide and remains unsupportable.
Harris is doing genocide. And she can’t pass this proposal.
Saving to read later. Watched- while feeding my mom w/dementia so, can relate.
Special thanks to @petersagal.bsky.social for helping me get my call for folks who went through Medicaid spend down in front of as many eyeballs as possible.
