Civil asset forfeiture isn't a criminal prosecution

There appears to an appetite, fortunately, to curb at least some of the excesses. Not sure if there is a good case in the pipeline to challenge it though.

Neither are regulatory fines at issue in the case. SCOTUS just ruled that using civil procedure to take money from people who wear suits requires a jury trial. Last month SCOTUS ruled that civil procedure could take cars from two working class women with no right to quickly contest that.
