i think there's a lot of general rules most of the industry just agreed on so there was no need to actually put them into regulations and then Tesla (& the modern investor class at other companies) came along and decided to ignore those rules

Well, they had to be drug kicking and screaming into seatbelts. So. I’m not saying I’ve kept tabs on these things, but I’m just not convinced they’ve ever really cared about customer safety.

It's just that Tesla hasn't been hit by all the eventual class action suits like most of the auto industry suffered at some point
