Pedestrian infrastructure in Los Angeles. The bad news: the sidewalk ends well short of the stoplight where it would be possible to cross the busy street. The good news: there is a use trail through the rosemary.

In the foreground is a sidewalk which ends and is replaced by a narrow path through a waist high rosemary hedge. There is a wide street to the left and some rail tracks to the right.

California really does have awful pedestrian infrastructure. I lived in the Bay Area until I was 12 and I remember my town (Los Altos) literally didn't have sidewalks in 95% of the neighborhoods.

I've heard such trails called "desire paths" and thought that was a wonderful term.
