Remember how the "retail theft crime wave" disappeared as soon as companies had to do their annual reports? That's because it's illegal to lie to shareholders. AI is booming (if you're a pleb) but if you have money - Goldman Sachs will be honest with you instead web.archive.org/web/20240629...

While the next AI winter is coming, the current hype cycle could potentially last a couple more years yet. It is clear that investors do not understand gen AI, that a lot of people who should know better are vastly overselling its capabilities (or wishful thinking), and that FOMO is *sky high*.

As I repeat ad nauseam, "AI is the new NFT". Next year's fad will be something else, and something we hope will be cheaper and without Sam Altman talking.

Interesting - solving hard problems still requires human imaginations? Imagination is a superpower. Maybe we should think more about what we've done to and how to grow our imaginations in education and our lives. Likewise, imp to identify organizations, etc. that thwart or corrupt imagination.

So the chips make sense in making money. As do the energy companies. I also understand cybersecurity making money as AI progresses. In addition, I foresee companies like IBM making some profit in consulting on how to use AI. AI is at the very beginning. It’s all going to take a while to sort out.

"One exception, not that it helps above-board businesses? Criminals. Hackers are using AI to steal an untold amount of money, which has driven companies to spend more cash on cybersecurity measures" oh yey
