The fun of games is operating under someone else’s constraints
This is not normal or welcome behavior dude
You should be striving to get dry jerked concurrently on multiple projects that you genuinely love with the understanding that the studios have weak wrists and you may have to finish the job yourself
“Yeah I’m insanely passionate about the project, I’ll work unpaid/underpaid for years on it, but if you don’t green light it I’m just gonna kinda forget about it”
I think the best position to be in with a studio when you’re pitching something is taking the attitude “this deserves to exist, and i plan to make it with or without you.” Not “pwease make my pwoject i can only do it wif miwwions of dowwars”
Conversely, I also think people should be realistic about the fact that it’s a numbers game and a cosmic lottery due to infinite moving parts.
I think people should care about what they pitch. It’s gross when you meet people who want to pitch stuff just out of a sense of obligation or ego. I’ve met people who had like ten pitches going at once and it was clear they just wanted the title and status and salary.
If you think that a studio and its executives will feel any degree of anything for you because you worked long or hard or with love or care, the opposite is true. They enjoy a diffuse distribution of responsibility because they are obligated to do what is easiest and best for them
