I'm sure there's a way to balance the questions and answers in a good novel, but I haven't found it yet either. I've written three (only published one) but ending them never feels right. Too neat, too convenient. I haven't decided where to go from here.

With novels, most readers expect some degree of closure. A neat little bow to tie it all together. And maybe that's why so many long stories, be they movies, series or books, get dragged for having terrible endings. Sometimes, a conclusive ending just isn't very satisfying.

My favorite part of writing (or reading) short stories is that they don't need to be whole. They can be fragments of stories, characters, settings and ideas, all of which may allude to something larger that must forever exist within the mind of the reader, incomplete but full of possibility.

The girls working there were enthusiastic when I picked it up to look at it, so of course I had to buy it. I am weak, but I have no regrets.
