My history prof friend is claiming that Trump's mass deportation plan is definitionally not ethnic cleansing and claiming so delegitimizes "actual" instances of ethnic cleansing and in case you're wondering how we got to be frogs in a pot...
Any chance this friend is unlikely to be among the deported?

November is not going to go well. Harris' play it safe campaign is going to fail miserably. They need to be driving turnout, but they're not inspiring anything right now.
not only is this stupid in its own right but it is willfully blind to the fact that neither trump nor vance has made any distinction between “legal” and “illegal” immigration and have almost explicitly stated that they view the question in racialized terms
Yesterday I was wondering what language existed prior to the Nazis and Hitler to describe the death toll that fascism caused in Europe. Now it seems we have common language to describe these moments, but we aren't allowed to use it. If we can't even call it what it is, how can we prevent it?
Same thing with people poo pooing legitimate uses of “concentration camp” or genocide. Words apparently too charged to use in the lead up to tragedy in hopes of mitigating or avoiding it. You only get to use these words after the crime against humanity is complete.
