The Nintendo Switch was revealed 8 years ago today. The debut trailer contained our first looks at Super Mario Odyssey, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Splatoon 2. Coming off Wii U, nobody could have expected that this system would be as historically successful as its been.
When this trailer was showed, it was exactly what I wanted. Just a few years sooner I said to a friend “I wish Nintendo would combine their console and handheld business so I don’t have to buy a separate handheld to play 2D Zelda” and then the Switch was revealed that did just that.
The WiiU was one of the hardest consoles to be Nintendo fan with. Rocky as hell right out of the gate and it never really got better. Still loved it, though. And without it, we might not have the Switch - considering the Switch is the WiiU concept perfected and paired down.
Elite hybrid system. Changed gaming forever. Don’t think people understand how truly useful it is. In my area, i don’t have electricity often. Nintendo made sure i can play anytime, docked and on the go.
This system is one of my favorites of all time
to think NX speculation is almost a decade old now... still remember what happened the day that reveal dropped.
The console may not be as feature rich as the Wii U(Miiverse) or the 3DS(Street Pass/Themes) but its made up for it with the abundance of heavy hitting games and NSO+Expansion Pak bringing back these retro titles. It’s been a great 8 YEARS👏🏾👏🏾
