No, they didn't. The Nazis weren't stupid. Dying in the streets was something that happened in occupied Poland, in Ukraine, in Belarus. In Germany, everything was done orders. Laws, police orders, designated trains, fake postcards, fake papers, lies. It was easy to lie to yourself.

Because most people would. Imagine doubling your salary or getting a flat twice the current size. If you don't, there are enough takers. You don't know the previous owners and have no idea what happened to them. Seems not that hard to understand.
