Stumbled across this quote from an interview with The Mars Volta and I think it's one of the best descriptors of my creative mindset when I'm thinking up OC stuff. Scare the hoes, don't let them scare you first. I guess.

Snippet from a 2006 interview with Cedric Bixler-Zavala, singer of The Mars Volta. "But in a lot of ways the fact that there are long songs and long tangents and narratives and things like that - if that scares away somebody then that’s good, because I don’t think I would have wanted that person to be involved with listening to us in the first place. “My girlfriend’s always telling me that people don’t want to feel like the person they’re listening to might have something over them - they want to be able to connect with them. So it’s not that we’re better or anything like that, I think that we just have something to say a lot of the time that’s not what people would have expected. “And you’re not going to get it just by looking at us or by listening to a single on the radio - you’ve got to sit down and talk to us, and let us take over and take you on the ride, and not let the audience take the band on the ride. It’s just that sometimes that’s easier said than done.”

Like when I say I write for myself, this is basically what I'm talking about. When you follow me you're getting whatever the hell I feel like throwing out here regardless of how weird or out there it is.
