I don’t know enough about this particular school, so this is a general comment rather than a reflection on it: a real negative side effect of the VAT policy is that there are some properly mad private schools whose parents may choose “a terrible home education” over “the local state school”.

The Times did a story a couple of weeks ago about a Scottish private school closing due to impending VAT. One Google revealed a story from last year about how the school was on the verge of closing after losing tons of money over covid

This was on the local news last night and they mentioned the fees (£3500 a term), 70 pupils and 30 staff and the numbers just don’t add up on that basis. But then I’m a school governor…
