Reasons why it might not work: well, it's wholly possible that McSweeney can't do the administrative stuff, and also I think shouldn't undersell (read @samfr's Substack!) the important of 'Keir Starmer's Lack of Politics' as a cause of dysfunction.

The other reason it might not work is it was IMO obvious that it was *highly unlikely* to work to have an administrative/political split and you do have to ask questions about the leader who had to have 94 days of the predictable tripping over its own feet to go 'oh, yeah, this is a mistake'.

Remember when we had Prime Ministers who knew how to do politics? I wonder how much of Johnson's cultivated air of outsider-charm has (even subconsciously) contributed to this. Or whether Johnson's a symptom, not a cause.
