I’m Slavic adjacent myself. I can read Cyrillic and some Russian from learning it when I was younger for fun. But my wife grew up in Poland and came here when she was in her early 20s and after 21 years of marriage I can understand Polish pretty well.

Ya, it’s terrifying. My friend used to go every year to visit family and they haven’t been able to go since the war started because they’re worried they’d get thrown in jail (her husband helped at the Polish border at the beginning)
