I know, I know. Comparisons to the Finnish education system are fraught. But check out this CBS Sunday Morning piece on what it looks like when we commit to media literacy starting in the early grades. Itās hard to argue against this huge, needed focus for our schools. youtu.be/NNco4dayC1M#edusky

@stevechiger.bsky.social and I would have been all over this game when we were in high school.
Googleās audio spotlight is a pretty wild ride ā turning any text into a semi-parodic/semi spot-on podcast. So what happened when @hibitus-habitus.bsky.social and I fed AI a chapter of our book on media literacy? Hereās what:
Have you seen the new Google feature that turns texts into... podcasts? Absolutely fascinating, verging on jaw-dropping.
English teachers: Are you assigning fewer books? As a curriculum director, I ā¤ļø the attention on pressures I know are real for many English teachers. But as a former journo, I have to ask: how many? The article doesnāt say, making it hard to assess. www.usnews.com/news/us/arti...
Very much enjoyed How Do We Learn? Probably now in my top five books on research and pedagogy ā a must read. H/T @douglemov.bsky.social for recommending it!
So much to think about here: from what markers podcasts have as a genre to how quickly and closely AI is sounding like humans to how much fun it will be to feed this app all manner of texts. For its next trick, maybe it can do on-the-fly meta-analyses? Whew. These are strange times.
I'm trying out using LinkedIn as a faster way to write quick blogs. If you're interested in #medialiteracy and "free" cash, this one's for you! :)
This past week, you may have seen stories about people trying to exploit a Chase bank āglitchā to get free cash. [#Spoiler ā another word for that is ācheck fraud.
OK! Keep me posted! :) His other books have been just lovely.
Howās the new Osman? I love all the Thursday Murder Club books.
