With BlueSky finally opening up federation, I think it's time to write up something that explains the whole thing, BlueSky, atproto, the works, in one easy to find place. Just the high level bits, hopefully something that any developer can understand: steveklabnik.com/writing/how-...

I didn’t realize I could use my domain for an alias on here until I read your article. Hopefully more see that and follow! Now how do we get codefence blocks on here? 🤔

damn i am much more excited about bluesky than i thought i did (pun) is it a better rss? is atproto to rss what matrix is to irc? also wondering about how media attachments are handled... where/how are they hosted? transmitted? i know supporting video is apparently hard but im not sure why exactly

Great write up! Do you know how downvotes on an app using atproto would work? Would it have to be custom built and specific to the app? or could it be done in a way that a reddit style app could be made using atproto and a bsky feed is influenced by the downvotes from the reddit style app?

This was so great! Thank you. I one there is something really great here but I can’t quite wrap my head around the methodology. Your post is much needed and I look forward to more. 🙏🏼

Your blog post convinced me to try BlueSky after giving up on Twitter. Now I know where everyone I follow went. Glad they opened this up to the public. The mobile app experience is close enough to pre-Elon Twitter that I’m willing to invest my time in this. Social media lives!

most succinct description of the ATP model I've seen so far, I think! one nitpick, if you don't mind — even with a did:web, you can still change your handle domain; you just need to continue owning the domain in the DID so it can point to your handle
