the last point probably mostly applies to things from the american comics background, due to the fact that "plot" is heavily conveyed through text in those, in general, as opposed to the panel layout and their graphic contents as they are in some other "traditions"

I had a portfolio critique from Shelly Bond once (the only pro critique I’ve ever had), and some of this came up, but her main advice was “you’re good at drawing apes, people like apes, draw my apes” In retrospect, I should have taken that advice
