There's more to the Kamala campaign's sassy brat responses to Trump than "what a burn." Her statements are re-normalizing human responses to these weird, hollowed-out, cringey creeps who should be in prison. The revulsion when seeing someone like Stephen Miller is instinctive. The snark is healing.

A thought I've had on this, but can't quite phrase: When we took the cons seriously in '16, we allowed them to dictate terms of the debate. Things like "Of course deporting 30 million people is rash-" just served to normalize the idea that it was one you can respond to rationally.

Just discussed this with a buddy today. Mockery is the only thing that works when people are unswayed by facts and reason and stick panty liners on their ears to emulate Dear Leader.

It also allows the media to cover it. They don’t cover Trump being weird, but “Harris says Trump is weird.”

Agree. Anyone with internal radar saw the crazy and creepy coming the second they popped up. They have earned every bit of the public shunning.

This is so true! I’ve been thinking about your post all afternoon, and you perfectly stated something I was struggling to put my finger on. She’s sort of tugging that Overton window back where it belongs.

Agree completely & yet—as I'm sure you recognize—as with all powerful tools there's a margin of danger. A very tentative rule of thumb, from some recent conversation, might be to season the 'weird' refs generously with 'creepy' This list of terms may also be of use to some: bsky.app/profile/dark...
