💙📚 Happy Birthday to the greatest Haunted House novel ever: THE HAUNTING OF HILL HOUSE, by the GOAT Shirley Jackson - first published on Oct 16, 1959. Journeys end in lovers meeting...
My little cup of stars….
Big fan of this, but The Turn Of The Screw is my fave of this genre. The Innocents is my fave version of it too. The fact we never know whether there are any ghosts still fascinates and haunts me many years later.
Inspired by these posts to finally read it!
I like that cover!!
Also, if you do a little selective trimming of that cover, you get an entirely different (but very charming) book, sort of a _Cujo_ predecessor:
Gotta love old school book covers. Why don't we have library book fair day as a national holiday?!
Hill House, not sane,
Our book club read this and debated if the whole thing was one of those crazy 1950s psyop experiments from Nell's perspective to fake a haunting and see what happens.
I like Jackson's "Life Among the Savages" much better!
I'd never seen that cover before - love it!
