On the other-other hand... Our tribe doesn't seem to be achieving much. At least visually. From the outside...rather wasteful. I couldn't imagine going back in debt as a town just because our mayor is a snarky jerk. I do hope I chose right.
It was not an easy vote. Our mayor pulled us out of the hole we were in and even exonerated our former mayor of the embezzling rumors. But at the same time...I've watched him boot natives out of their homes for taxes and he and his family get toxic when you question them.
The big one is for Mayor. It'll be a tight race with a lot of gossip. Since the fresh LDS church popped up locals are extra weary of our rather successful mormon incombent. The new candidate is our current tribal administrator. So add in the drama our railroad deal caused with the tribe.
Didn't think a local would bring up Haitians in our municipal election. I should've expected it. Pretty hopeful our Bible verse spewing school board member is likely out though. There's a strong showing for a former boarding home student who stayed and started a family. I even threw my hat in.
Shhhh...don't jinx us.
At the minimum, I agree. At this point though, watching my family and friends struggle for what used to be plentiful is getting old. Same with the income outside workers earn here. We need to tax it and train a generation of Alaskans to work for Alaska.
They shouldn't be able to hunt without residency. We need to protect our resources...
