A while back, I read the documentation around the "Breendoggle" when the Berkeley SF community was arguing over whether Walter Breen, a known pedophile, should be included in activities. (Also, MZB's husband) The issues and rhetoric are hauntingly similar to what we heard during Gamergate.....

And similar conflicts in fan communities. There's a lot of people making excuses for Breen, and claiming that he just "gets" kids. Also, opposition to banning ANYONE from cons and gatherings. Breen and Bradley were two of the most loathsome people ever to be in fandom.

I would say this is a somewhat different issue, though absolutely horrifying for sure
