The Cabot Trail on Cape Breton Island is beautiful but a bummer I couldn’t hike because of my fractured toe. However I did get to visit the Alexander Graham Bell National Historic Site (so interesting!), see stunning views, search for sea glass & eat a fantastic lobster club sandwich.

It’s pretty small - fits in the palm of my hand - but so cute!!! Can’t wait to use it for Halloween month! 🎃 The pizza is a Cape Breton toppings thing so had to try. The buns were almost as big as *two* of my palms & were the best buns I’ve ate! And the cheese spread had blue cheese in it, so 🙌🏻!

Also, if you are ever in Glace Bay, definitely eat at Colette’s. Everything looks so good & is just diner comfort food. My grilled salmon with mashed potatoes, mashed turnips, carrots & coleslaw was delicious!

Found out the Cape Breton Miners Museum was recently rejected by the Province to become part of the Nova Scotia Museum family. Honestly doesn’t make sense to me as mining was a part of Nova Scotia’s history for centuries. I hope the Museum can continue to operate. www.cbc.ca/player/play/...

Visited the excellent Cape Breton Miners Museum & took a tour w/ former miner, Eric Spencer, who shared so many amazing stories & facts. The Miners’ Memorial Park adjacent is very moving. This is an important part of Nova Scotia History, heck, Canadian history & I highly recommend you go.

Our guide, Eric Spencer, at the Cape Breton Miners Museum (a Toronto Maple Leafs fan, check out his helmet!) starting us on the mine tour. He was fantastic!
A look at where we walked into the mine. It was darkish, damp & very low - the lowest part was 48”. Imagine working in those conditions every day?
Miners’ Memorial Park at the Cape Breton Miners Museum in Glace Bay honouring the 12 miners who died in an explosion at the No. 26 Colliery on February 24, 1979. One of the men lost was our mine guide’s brother-in-law.
Centrepiece of the Miners’ Memorial is sculpted in bronze by Timothy P. Schmalz in a maple leaf shape. This side shows the 12 miners who died underground. The hole at the top is like the light shining through the top of a mine.

Packed day driving to a very windy Peggy’s Cove (and the Swissair Flight 111 Memorial Site) & then to Lunenburg (a UNESCO World Heritage Site), founded in 1753, to see the Bluenose II & the beautiful old houses. Tried a Lobster Mary (more Caesar than Bloody Mary but still good!).

Okay, something I am loving about this Mustang is the wireless charging for my phone. So fast & convenient! Evidently Ford has gotten rid of it in their 2025 models. 🤷🏻‍♀️ (Honestly not a car person at all but this trip upgrade got me curious about its features!) 😬

Learning of the history & hearing the stories of Pier 21 moved me. Roman was able to discover what ship his Dad came to Canada on as a displaced person after World War II. Seeing the ship’s manifest made me teary. So many of our parents came to Canada, young, alone, full of hope. 💙

Messages from immigrants who arrived in Canada via Pier 21. On the left: “My grandmother brought her 7 children (my Dad) to build a happier life here. I will always be grateful and blessed for Pier 21. Thank you God bless. ❤️” On the right: “Arrived on the Samaria - early 1950. Displaced persons from the war. Polish. Sporzynski - Edmund, Feliksa, Irene, Jadwiga, Gertrauda, Eva” accompanied by a computer-printed photo of the family.
A replica of the Welcome to Canada sign from 1946 at Pier 21 in many languages with the typos kept as in the original. A photo of Queen Elizabeth II with Prince Philip is above, but she would not have been married yet, or have been Queen yet.
